01 / Overview
Finding the haul is only the beginning.
Deserted Shift is a co-op horror game in active development by Cup Code Studio, designed for one to four players. Explore an isolated desert and abandoned industrial sites with DS-7, recovering valuable equipment and materials before the operation becomes difficult to contain.
Each shift asks what is worth the risk. Extract the load and take it back to DS-7, while noise, injuries and lost teammates may change the return plan.
These pillars describe the design in development, not a list of completed systems or a playable release.
Co-op horror
One to four players, with a design where each teammate’s condition affects the mission.
Exploration
An isolated desert and abandoned industrial facilities to search for worthwhile salvage.
DS-7
An industrial vehicle for travel between locations and recovery operations.
Recovery
Find equipment and materials, then plan how to extract them and return to the vehicle.
Physics
Items are designed as physical parts of play, not only icons in a menu.
Carry together
Some heavy loads require more than one player to work together.
Noise
Players, equipment and the environment create events that suitable threats may respond to.
Risk
The team decides whether to keep searching or return with its haul.
Survival
Injuries and lost teammates affect the team’s ability to complete the mission.
Maintenance Drone
A planned system for limited assistance after a player is lost.
Planned02 / Core loop
A shift begins and ends at DS-7.
This is the intended gameplay loop. Every stage connects to a decision that affects the team, the haul and the return.
DS-7
Reach a location
Explore the facility
Find equipment and materials
Weigh value and risk
Carry the load
Respond to threats
Return to DS-7
Secure the haul
Prepare for the next shift
03 / Explore
A wide desert. Places left behind.
Travel into a wide, isolated desert aboard the industrial DS-7. Find abandoned facilities and locations, then explore inside for valuable equipment and materials.
Distance, an open horizon and industrial facilities shape the current world direction. Final maps and locations have not been announced.
04 / Recover
Value does not reach the vehicle on its own.
Finding equipment is only part of the mission. Decide what is worth taking, plan an extraction route, then carry it back and secure it in DS-7. The time spent moving it is part of the risk.
05 / Carry together
Not every load is equal.
Items and equipment are physical parts of the gameplay design. Some heavy equipment requires more than one player to move. Carry classes are in development, with no final weights announced.
Light items
Loads in the light-item class.
In developmentMedium items
A medium class reviewed around recovery needs.
In developmentHeavy cooperative items
Some loads need more than one player to move.
In development06 / Noise & threats
Sound is part of the danger.
Movement and interaction create noise events. Some threat systems are intended to respond according to their behavior. Not every threat hears everything.
- Running
- Doors
- Equipment
- Heavy objects
- Falling
- Environment interaction
07 / Risk vs return
How much can you carry before the return becomes more dangerous?
The goal is not necessarily to collect everything. Sometimes the hardest decision is to return with what you have.
- Every extra item means more time inside the location.
- Heavy equipment may slow the team.
- Noise may draw danger.
- An injury may reduce carrying capacity.
- Losing a teammate may force a complete change of plan.
08 / The vehicle
DS-7
The point of departure and return.
DS-7 is the industrial vehicle the team relies on during shifts to travel between locations and support recovery operations.
The design direction includes returning cargo to the vehicle, securing it and preparing for the next shift. Vehicle systems and details are in development. Public details will be shared after approval.
In development09 / Player survival
Every player’s condition affects the shift.
Injuries, falls and lost teammates may change the plan for exploration, transport and return. The design focuses on how these conditions affect cooperation and the team’s ability to finish the mission.
The survival loop is in development. We will share approved health and revival details when they are ready for publication.
10 / Planned
Maintenance Drone
Planned, not completeDeath does not necessarily end a player’s role in the shift. We are working on the foundation of Maintenance Drone to give a lost player a limited way to keep supporting the team. Capabilities, restrictions and details may change during development.
11 / World
An open horizon and abandoned industry.
The current environment direction combines readable shapes, open spaces and considered detail. The world and its visuals are in development.
- Large, smooth dunes
- Sparse rocks with strong silhouettes
- Roads and industrial facilities
- Abandoned vehicles and props
- Light dust and a wide horizon
- A pale sky and material-led ground detail
12 / Visual direction
Simple Stylized
Industrial 3D Horror
Simple, readable 3D forms, strong silhouettes and considered geometric detail. Materials carry part of the detail to keep the world clean and legible.
A stylized industrial direction without photorealism or exaggerated cartoon styling. This describes the art direction, not imagery from a final playable build.
